Agia Marina Crete is located 10 km west of Chania Greece on the north-west coast of Kriti.
This sandy beach meets at the headland of Platanias beach, which is a long sandy beach to the west, with Agioi Theodori island opposite.
This is a happening place, full of fun and activity, there are water sports of jet skiing, para gliding and wind surfing. On the beach are plenty of bars, pool bars, beach volley ball and beach tennis.
This stunning beach can be reached easily by the local bus, as it sits just a hop skip and a jump from the national road. It is also only 31 km from the international airport at Chania.
The village has expanded and there are many, many rooms, hotels, apartments and resorts here. It is good for tavernas, bars and nightclubs, and an easy location for visiting the town of Chania. The beach can get a little crowded in summer. Popular beach bar is Summer Theatro.
Here is Chania Surf Club where you can organise your surfing, kite surfing or Stand Up Paddle Boarding SUP. You can take lessons, rent boards, surf or join trekking and other activities
A couple of streets inland from the beach you will find Horiatiko Taverna, run by Dimitris, serving good, traditional Cretan food.
Inland on a small hillside is the upper village Pano Agia Marina which has stayed more traditional and has some nice tavernas including Restaurant Manoli.
On the road up to the old village is Aletri Taverna with a delightful balcony setting. A mixed menu to please all the family. Try the Dakos, local Cretan style salad, the Saganaki Prawns and the Zucchini Balls. Mmmm. The Katzanakis family will look after you here.
Enjoy the seaside at your table dining at Mitsos Taverna (below) or the very popular Casa di Mare which is also right on the water.
Stay on the beach side of the local road, and definitely on the beach side of the national road. Stay as close to the beach as possible, or head to the hinterland to find a 'home away from home' surrounded by olive groves.
Vergina Beach Hotel is very close to the beach, a modern stylish hotel with excellent service, a beach bar and restaurant, and a cocktail bar. Enjoy exquisite views from the upper studios and balconies.
Villa Chara is just a little inland from here, a stunning property, set in an olive grove, that is modern yet constructed in the traditional Cretan architectural style. Perfect for bonding with the family whilst combining a beach side holiday. 700 metres to Agia Marina Beach.
My Villa Dafni is located in the village of Stalos, in the hinterland behind the beaches. It is an oasis of calm with complete privacy. A 2 bedroom villa welcoming 5 guests in comfort. 1 km from Agia Marina Beach, best visited with a car.
