Weather in Crete Mid June
by Erin
(London)
Hello, I am planning a trip to Crete. I am going to Maleme Beach in Chania. I will stay from June 12th to June 18th...
Will it be warm enough to catch some sun and swim in the pool? Ideal temps would be 30 degrees but I'm worried it will be only 25 degrees, which is a little chilly to swim.
Is this a good time to visit? Many thanks.
June is Great for Swimming in Crete
Hi Erin,
The short answer is Yes!
The long answer is that the average temperature in Crete in June is 24C with lows of 18C and highs of 28C. There are 11 hours of sunshine a day, on average, and sea temperatures of 22C.
On average there is only 1 day of rain in June.
People start swimming in Crete in April and May and continue even into November, so we are sure you will be fine.
Generally, it is more comfortable at temperatures of mid-twenties and perfectly wonderful for swimming, whereas temperatures in the thirties are really quite hot.
See our page about
Maleme Beach here..., and you might want to visit
Chania town... which is only 16 km to the west of Maleme and very pretty.
Accommodation in Maleme Beach includes
Electra Pension, which is a small, delightful family-run place with a pool, where Electra and Minos will welcome you with true Cretan hospitality.
Find budget accommodation in
Summer Lodge nearby, this is a simple, quiet place with a pool just 400 metres from the beach.
Inland 3 km is the beautiful private home of Helen, who shares some of the apartments with travellers; stay in comfort in small Greek village named Xamoudochori in
Arete Apartments.
From Maleme you can organise to visit
Balos Lagoon, which is just spectacular and really great for swimming and getting some sun
See our page about
the region of Chania here...Maleme Beach is near to
Agia Marina Beach and there are plenty of buses every day along the coast line, so you can visit other beaches on the north coast, including Platanias and Kolymbari. Further to the west is Kissamos Bay, with many beautiful beaches, and
Kastelli-Kissamos, a very Greek seaside town.
From here you can also organise a trip to
Samaria Gorge, or if you have your own car you could visit
Agia Irini Gorge, or Omalos Plateau in the White Mountains...
Kalo Taxidi! Bon Voyage!
Best Time is June!!! Yes - really!!!
You can be happy to have decided to visit Crete in June: really it is the best time! The sun is hot but still not really burning, the water is warm, the days are long, the evenings are still warm enough to spend time outside - lovely! And the nature still is green and bloomy.
I always come to Crete at the end of May until middle of June, only this year I can't come because of health reasons, but therefore I'll come in September - a good time, too!
Enjoy your time at Crete - have good vacations!
